Hog Hunting

Dave and I went hog hunting (the link is not the one we went on but has a lot of good info and pictures) for Florida Boar the last couple of weekends. On the first try we got into the tree stands and waited about 2 hours when it started lightning, so we had to come down and call it a day. The next try was a week later, and Dave ended up getting 2 and me none. I had a shot very early on, probably only 30 minutes or so in the stand, but when I fired there was only a loud 'click'. The gun had misfired. They guy that took us hunting was letting us use his guns. We unjammed the round and tried a couple more shots with it but no luck, it was broken. The only other thing he had was a small pistol, and since it was still early I took it. I ended up getting off 2 more shots with the pistol, but wasn't able to hit anything with it, so no boar for me. I'm going to split the processing costs with Dave though so can have one of his.

Biggest Redfish so Far

Dave, Tim and I went out this morning and fished our usual spot. We found lots of trout that seemed to have a real attitude, I've never seen them hit and fight that hard. Tim caught the first redfish at 32" and Dave got the biggest at 38", which is the record out there for us so far. I caught one small slot size red, and about a dozen or so trout.

Thanksgiving Camping 2011

Just got back from our camping trip to Hillsborough River State Park. One of the highlights of the vacation was a 2 hour canoe trip down the river. We saw lots of wildlife including gators. Devin did a great job on the whole trip taking pictures.

Everyone was up early this morning very excited to be headed off to school, with summer vacation finally at an end. Derek was especially excited, commenting many times on how long the summer vacation was ;)

Devin had her Spring Dance Recital last night and tonight. The theme was 'Time' and it was a lot of fun to watch. The show consisted of 31 routines of which Devin was in eight.

A falling tree barely missed the house in Wisconsin this weekend, but still managed to do a huge amount of damage... smashing a window, flattening the air conditioner, and putting a couple holes in the roof. Still, very lucky it wasn't 10 feet to the left!

Memorial Day Camping

Went camping at Disney's Fort Wilderness this weekend, and actually went to the park this time. Magic Kingdom was running extended hours so we took advantage of that to avoid the holiday crowds. We also hung out at Animal Kingdom Lodge, using their pool and later having dinner at the buffet. They have what they call 'savannas' there, with all kinds of African animals, so we got to see Giraffes, Zebras, Ostriches and and bunch of other stuff.

Devin received not one, but 3 awards at her school's awards ceremony this evening. One of them was the prestigious "DeLaura Scottie Award"! Way to go Devin! -- If you would have been here you could have told me how to spell 'prestigious', good thing we have spell checkers :)

Easter Camping at Fort Wilderness

Just got back from a long weekend camping at Disney's Fort Wilderness. The weather was perfect, and everyone had lots of fun riding bikes, swimming, driving the golf cart and riding the mono-rail around the park.

The landscaping we did in December is starting to fill in a bit. The blue iris we planted are blooming really nicely, getting lots of compliments from the neighbors that walk by there all the time. Thanks for helping plant them Dad, here's a photo of what your hard work produced.

Cake Coming Soon

Camping Spring Break

We bought a used Pop-up camper and hit Long Point Park for Spring Break. Unfortunately so did the Thunderstorms. Danny and I were the only ones brave enough to stay and weather the storm, and it turned out that was a good move by everyone else because the storms hit hard and left us wondering if the little camper was going to get blown over or not.
