New Server
I ordered a new server for the dolnik.com website today, well, it's not really a server, it's a workstation (Dell Optiplex 620). And, it's not new... I bought if from Dell's Outlet store as a refurbished unit. BUT... it's way better than the server currently being used which is an old Dell Poweredge 2200. When the 2200 was purchased it was a cutting edge server, running dual 233MHz Pentium II processors with 256MB Ram (the maximum this server will accomodate is 512MB). Contrast that with the new workstation which is a Dual Core, 3.0GHz Pentium 4 with 2GB of Ram! The new computer cost approximately $3000 less than the old server when it was purchased new in 1998.
